Shiksha
/shik-sha/ noun
Origin: Sanskrit
Shiksha translates to education in the Sanskrit language. Shiksha is an AI-assisted smart education platform that facilitates customized learning for every student across the country.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
With the onset of the pandemic, education was forced to move online. In a country like India where digital gadgets with internet are a luxury, a whole chunk of the population found it difficult to cope up with the new mode of education. This induced the issue of differential access to education for students.
PROPOSED SOLUTION
An AI-assisted smart classroom platform to facilitate online learning for all students with different degrees of technical expertise and internet connectivity. This will help students living in remote areas of the country, and under varying educational systems.
Some of the issues addressed are:
DESIGN PROCESS
USER JOURNEY
PERSONA MAPPING
MARKET STUDY AND PRODUCT STUDY
A detailed market study was conducted to understand and compare the various features present in the current apps in the market.
FINAL LIST OF FEATURES
After brainstorming, I devised a list of features that would be added to the application. This was done after creating a prioritization matrix to maximize user satisfaction and functionality.
Various Use Cases
AI-ASSISTED FEATURES
Breaking the language barrier
By providing real-time lecture translation and subtitles generation in regional languages using Natural Language Processing (NLP).
Al-Assisted personalized learning
Smart individual content and quizzes based on students’ performance in quizzes, assignments, and doubts asked during lectures.
It’s like Netflix recommendations, suggests videos (with timestamps), websites, books to study from based on the student’s goals and abilities.
LOW FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
Tackling differential access to internet connectivity
By providing audio lectures using VOIP for 2G connections and lecture transcripts using NLP to students with EDGE connections.
HIGH FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
FUTURE SCOPE
Gamifying education: Showing students progress of how much they have learnt, using positive reinforcement and rewards like points, badges, levels (instead of grades) for motivation.
Including novel ways of assessment: As the intended goal for a student is to learn (and not just cram information for exams), metrics like student engagement and progress over time can be used as additional assessments.
Al assisted course selection for next semester: As Al will understand the student’s strengths and weakness, we can suggest them on what courses he can take next semester in college.
